You will be investigating the benefits of eating organic foods. Students are asked to compare the cost of organically-grown produce (i.e., apples or carrots) to the same produce that has been grown with conventional methods. This is opinion about whether you believe there are health benefits to eating organic foods. Do you believe the benefits outweigh the extra cost why or why not? You are to support your opinion with evidence from your readings and/or other resources.
Answer :Definitely I believe that organic food has lots of benefits. Before that I would like to explain what is the difference between organic food and conventional food.
Organic food :Organic foods are grown and processed without the use of fertiliser, pesticides, additives and bio-engineered genes.
Conventional foods :In this farmers use fertilizers, chemicals to enhance plants growth.
Therefore, most of the people prefer organic foods to conventional foods. The benefits of organic foods are as following :
1)As it does not contain any pesticides and chemicals which helps to maintain overall health of a person.
2)Due to the lack of preservatives people consume it freshly.
3)Studies propose that organic foods contain higher antioxidants which helps to prevent cancer, heart disease, vision problems, premature ageing and cognitive malfunctions.
4)When consuming conventional foods, indirectly people are taking antibiotics and vaccinations. Because these are using in conventional farming. But organic farmers do not use antibiotics and vaccines
5)Organic foods have better taste. Minerals and sugar structure in organic foods are tasty, because the crop take more time to develop and mature.
Organic foods are expensive because its production process is more expensive. More labours are required for organic farming. Moreover, organic food supply is limited as compared to its demand.
When we compare it's benefits to price, the benefits outweigh the extra cost.
In 2014 a research carried out by European scientists and published in the British journal of nutrition discovered that organic fruits and vegetables provides 20%to 40%higher amount of antioxidants than conventional foods which helps to prevent cell damaging and protect the cells from ageing.
Researchers say that pesticides in conventional fruits and vegetables can cause cancer in people.
