b)Check the NG tube position- First do hand wash, before putting any formula, water or medication down the NG tube, you should check to ensure the tip of the tube is actually in the stomach. This is done by removing some gastric fluid from the tube witha syringe and testing
c)Flushing the tube - Tube is first flush with 30ml of water before medication are given then in between medication to flush so tube with 5 to 10ml of water after all mediactions are given you are going to push the tube once more with 30 to 60 ml of water and then flushing allow the drain with gravity instead of solutions to prevent air.
d)Managing and preventing a blocked NG tube -
2)The doctor has ordered ice chips as a mouth care.Because one nostril is blocked, patient tend to mouth breathe. This causes dehydration of the nasal and oral mucosa, and patients will complain of thirst,Mouth care will help to relieve the dryness.
