Explain the issues pertinent to water (mostly potable).

Solutions

Expert Solution

The issues can be classified under two heads:

1. Physical Water Scarcity - this refers to the scarcity of water or the lack of availability of usable and drinkable water. This problem exists in dry, arid regions and also in those places which have been adversely affected by over-usage of water, human activities, industrialization and others which has either depleted the water table level or eliminated sources of water such as lakes, ponds, rivers, glaciers etc.

2. Economic Water Scarcity - this refers to the scarcity arising out of political and or economic reasons which deprive certain regions or group of people of water.

Certain challenges to water quality are: contamination, dumping of industrial and household wastes in water bodies, nuclear treatments and influences, excess wastage of water, non-usability of hard water for drinking and other purposes.

Also, the lack of proper regulations and rules regarding water management and dumping of wastes into the water bodies have resulted into deteriorating water quality.
