OPV contains all three poliovirus serotypes(1,2 and3)and the use of this vaccines has led to eradication of wild-polio virus type2(WPV2),with the last case occurring in 1922.

Oral polio Vaccine(OPV)has been effective in helping us to get closer to the Global eradication of poliovirus.These unnecessary case of WPV2 could be avoided by using Inactivated polio vaccine(IPV)instead of OPV.Hence OPV was switched to IPV.Here OPV is taken orally as drops and can be easily administered.It doesn't require a trained health worker.But OPV is still the main preventive measure taken against polio virus.
