What are the similarities and differences between health protection, health promotion, and disease prevention? What are the effects on the population when these areas are inadequately provided or addressed? Have you seen evidence of this in your community? If so where and how? As we know health promotion , Health protection and disease prevention are different areas of proper health infrastructure which together contribute to an efficient health system .

  1. Health protection - Health protection is provided to every individual with equal opportunities to achieve good health statutes . Primary health protection focuses on two areas . The first area is prevention of contagious diseases and controlling them. The second area on which the health protection focuses on is protection of people from environmental calamities , chemicals and radiation accidents .Health protection interventions are aimed at the reducing and limiting the risk associated with diseases .
  2. Health promotion - Health promotion involves mobilizing individuals ,communities ,societies to develop a scientific temper and to motivate them to choose good healthy habits and behaviors which in long term will help in reducing the risk of diseases which are chronic in nature In this area health is considered as an everyday source of life .
  3. Disease prevention- Disease prevention on the other hand is more specific in nature and focuses on reducing the morbidity and development of diseases which are frequent and chronic in nature , In this an action in advance is required in order to reduce the spread of diseases .

These three areas are interlinked with each other . We can take examples of health promotion . If we don't promote good healthy behaviors then it will lead to an outbreak of new diseases which will affect both disease prevention and health protection paradigm . Similarly if disease prevention is not there then health protection will suffer as it leads to pandemic situations . I have evidence in the community when health promotion was absen . People used to live in unhygienic living conditions . They used to drink tap water which was contaminated . Disgusted in a Jaundice outbreak in the area . In order to keep a balance between three I will start with promoting health by organizing seminars . awareness programs . Then I will develop a proper health protection protocol which will include disease prevention .But the first and foremost thing which is important is awareness about diseases and their and how they spread .
