BBC Banking Corporation has recently launched a training program for its newly hired executives to
acquire learning while they are doing their jobs. In this regard, these executives will work with a mentor
or buddy in different departments at planned intervals. In doing so, it enables them to know well about
the banking systems, functions, and work processes. Based on the case, you are required to:
(a) explain the type of training mentioned in the case,
(b) discuss the adopted training methods, based on (a), and
(c) suggest what other training method would be considered, in addition to the suggestions given in
(b)

When an employee learns during the working hours i.e. at the same time the employee is learning and serving his performance those type of trainings are called in house training or in the job training.

a. By understand the scenario the Banking Corporation is following the approach of On the job Training. This is the training which is provided at the workplace by the organization it self. Different types of training under on the job training are

  • Mentor Training
  • One to One training
  • Online training using server and modules
  • Job rotation.

b. As the approach followed by Banking Corporation is On the Job training and further the method adopted by them is Mentor Programming.

In Mentor Programming the senior members of the team guides the other member to learn the expertise. The training is not only restricted to job evaluation but the mentor aim at understanding the employee and help them to train them emotionally.

For adopting this type of method balance between the skills , personnel and role of both the mentor and mentee is must.

In the given case also the mentor was appointed to make the employee understand about the work culture and roles and responsibilities of employee towards the banking corporation.

Regular feedback and interval training will helps these new employee to adapt the changes fast and in smooth manner as they are dealing the situation practically.

The other name of on the job training is in house training and In-service Training.

c. Training and development to employees is the ladder of Career Development therefore give as much as you can. The employee learning in training and development will be able to perform better then the employee learning using modules and theory.

The other type of training offered to the employees of banking sector can be :

  • Induction Training : The role of executive or every person associated with the banking is to communicate. Therefore the candidate or employee should know how to communicate well. For this the Banks can ue induction training. In this type of training the motivational training is given to candidate and the whole banking structure and information is explained to the employee.
  • Special Training : In this type of training the employee is made expert into respective department. Here the bank official follow liberal policy and allow the employee to select the role and responsibility according to their interest. The one working with interest will be able to give more to the organization.
  • Delegation Training : This type of training is adopted by various banks like World Bank, Central Bank or Asian Development Bank.Here the personnel delegate the duties to employee to make them understand the work culture of bank. Their skilled are nourished in this manner and they are able to serve the bank in more efficient manner.
  • Other regular training include: The following training normally adopted by every organization irrespective of their field, However the training mentioned above is exclusive for banking sector
    • Skill training
    • Career development training
    • Technical Training
    • Other training with not specific names as and when required
