What is James weldon johnson views of the global problem of war
James Weldon Johnson was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on 17th June, 1871. He was the first African American since the Civil War to be admitted to the bar in Florida. He was an American author, educator, lawyer, diplomat, songwriter, and civil rights activist.
When the warveterans returned from the First WorldWar, there arose a great unrest as the veterans were vying with the blacks for jobs. In 1919, Johnson coined the term "Red Summer" and organized peaceful protests against the white racial violence against blacks that broke out that year in numerous industrial cities of the North and Midwest. There was fierce competition for housing and jobs. The blacks were lynched by the vetransand white americans. J.W. Johnson believed that war was a brutal concept and the war veterans should be adequately compensated so that the blacks were not robbed of their right to work or be killed by the dominating whites.
