Heather Williams is the manger and owner of Perfect Beauty Hair & Cosmetics located on High Street. She has been an entrepreneur for the past five years and has learnt a great deal about human behavior. Some of her stylists are self- motivated. However. There are a few that are lazy and need constant supervision to perform their duties responsibly. There are also a few technicians who create conflict and seem to be focused on scheming against other co -workers. Some of the employers are complainers. Miss Williams is always on the lookout for culprits and wonders how effective she is at warding off conflict. She turns to you as a Human Resource Consultant for advice to deal with the situation. You suggest that she attends a seminar on conflict.

(a) Identify ONE strategy that Miss Williams will learn from the seminar and explain how she can use it to resolve ONE of the challenges that she is facing with her employees. (5 marks)
(b) Assuming that the seminar also stresses ways to stimulate conflict. EXPLAIN ONE STRATEGY that Miss Williams could implement to create a positive and productive environment. EXPLAIN why this technique would be an effective in addressing the conflict in her business establishment.

(c) Relate an incident that you experienced in the workplace with a colleague and discuss ONEtechnique you used to improve the relationship. Provide TWO reasons for your choice of technique. (5 marks)

A) SETTING GOALS

goal for our life is crucial to accomplishing inner desires.in a saying says it transform instrumental mountains into walkable hills.as in the case of an employee goals helps employees believe in ourselves.it is mere plan for their work but make them accountable responsible.

once employer determine or plan one goal after considering employees level ,make them clarify later let them work on with on a deadline basis.if one attributed some duties and responsiblities in the form of goals employees tend to achieve.

but employer want constantly reassess to reap the gains we planned

b)FORGET ABOUT PAST

it means forget about what they said , how they perceived and what they did.

everyone is human our memory is fallible,it stored with emotions.as a employer had better remove "i felt" ,"i said" kind of conversation.doesnt guess employees' and collegues' intention which may have misinterpreted and mistaken.once the conversation has stopped give them opportunity to express employees have been encounteres-ie,never underestimate and ignore employees difficulties.

incident- employees are controlled by number of supervisors,or may result lack of clear direction

technique-unity of command(management principle)

this principle state thtat one subordinate should get orders from and report also to one supervisor or head.it is widely applying principle irespective of type of organisation

reason-

  • if an employee will be answerable to a particular superior conflict with the others will be avoided and the actual head feels honoured-professional relatioship
  • fast decision -since there is no clashes between the supervisors .no need to get permission
