IMPACT OF LIFE-STYLE ON DIET: Life style is a way people used to referred to the characteristics of the inhabitants of a region . Malnutrition, unhealthy diet, smoking, consumption of alcohol, drug addiction, stress all related to the unhealthy life style. Recent studies shows that lifestyle has a significant influence on physical and mental health of human being. The variables of lifestyle that influence on health are categorized as a) DIET AND BODY MASS INDEX(BMI): Diet is the greatest factor in lifestyle and its consequences like obesity is the common health problem. It can be measured by BMI ( Body Mass Index) . Unhealthy lifestyle leads to nutrition problems like cardiovascular diseases. b) EXERCISE: Exercise is a better plan to increase the health which reduces stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. c) SLEEP : Sleep is one of the bases of healthy life. Lifestyle may affect on sleep and has a clear influence on mental and physical health. A good sleep helps the person to take adequate rest and reduces the diseases state on a person. d) MEDICATION ADDICTION: Medicine use is consider as an unhealthy lifestyle. Its behaviours include self-treatment, sharing medication, using medications without prescriptions, prescribing too many drugs, unnecessary drugs and not explaining the effects of drugs. These factors allows the person to follow an unhealthy lifestyle in the society. e) SUBSTANCE USE: Smoking and use of other substances results in cardiovascular diseases, asthma, cancer and brain injury. f) RECREATION : Leisure pass time is a sub factor of lifestyle.Neglecting leisure time bring negative consequences on humans. With disorganized planning and unhealthy leisure, people endanger their health. CULTURAL IMPACT ON DIET: Different cultures can produce people with different health risks. As people from one religion shift to another, their diet plan might change. due to this, the obesity rate has been increasing among Americans. To reduce the risk of chronic diseases by eating a) add more fruits and vegetables in diet b) limit alcohol consumption c) avoid high-fat diet and sugary products d) processed foods and e) red meat. Along with this diet control, exercising for 30 minutes helps to reduce fat deposition, thus by decreasing cardiovascular diseases. PROFESSIONAL IMPACT ON DIET: Good food choices have positive impact on health. It maintains health and safegaurd from chronic diseases. To ensure a quality life 1. Americans use fresh, whole foods like vegetables and fruits,whole grains, legumes, lean meats and fish- which have a lower incidence of major chronic diseases and especially of diet-related diseases. 2. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is high in saturated fats, partially hydrogenated oils, refined carbohydrates and highly processed foods. 3. A sedentary lifestyle and high stress causes increase in obesity and associated diseases namely type II diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary heart diseases, and certain cancers. PHYSIOLOGICAL FACTORS INFLUENCING DIET: Physiological factors affect the body mechanism and reduce the desire for food. To function the body normally, the Americans consume heavily nutrients that are essential for the building up of body.
