Intro

It is a landlocked country in the eastern part of Asia in latitude 47 degree 55' North and longitude 106 degree 53' East. Its capital is Ulaanbatar and official language spoken is Mongolian. The country has rich history. Mainly Mongols live here which comprise about 96% of total population and the rest are Kazakhs. Major religion in Buddhism followed by Islam, Non religious, Shamanism, Christianity. It has population density 1.97 person/square kilometer which is very low. The term Mongolia came from Mongols i.e. 'Land of Mongols.

Physical features

It is 18th largest country in the world. Its geography includes Gobi desert in the south which is a cold desert. In the north and the west are the mountain ranges and Manchuriansteppes. About 11% of total area is forested. It is a part of Mongolian plateau.

Since it is a desert, it remains very hot during summers and very cold during winters. It also comes under the influence of Siberian Anticyclone during winters.

Human Features

Its total population is about 30 lakh and the population growth is 1.2%. A large number of people come under the age group of 30 which comprise about 59% people while 27% are below 14 yrs. Since its fertility rate was higher in the period of socialism. I have already mentioned language and religion above.

Since it is a landlocked country, Mongolia needs to have good relations with China and Russia for better inflow and outflow of their items. There is shortage of water as well since no major river is found here. Most of its trade is done through Chinese ports. Hence it is a disadvantage for Mongolia.

Man environment

Desertification due to human activities and deforestation has resulted into other problems like soil erosion. Pollution is the other major problem due to rapid development of industries in the country.
