The World Bank has put you in charge of developing a new charter city. Choose a spot somewhere in the world to place your charter city, and explain your choice.
Charter Cities are the cities with city-scale administrative zones governed by a group of nations together. These are municipalities governed by a nation rather than the one in which its borders are contained. In such cities, the host country provides land, a source country provides residents and a country provides the assurance that the new city's charter would be respected and also enforced. As per the theories, these cities could serve as a model of good governance and wealth creation for the host countries which are usually having poorly run, development models.
One of the cities we can choose to place our charter city could be Bangalore, India. Here are some of the reasons why it should be considered:
1. It is one of the cities in the world creating world-class human capital, contributing a bigger share in the GDP of the host country - India.
2. The city accepts a lot of multinational firms - making it possible to have a global market in one place.
3. City accepts diversities - people from different backgrounds, different ethnicity, race, skills etc.. The diversity can prove to develop best in the class city charter and share the learnings with the rest of the world.
4. The city is ranked as one of the best cities in the world in terms of ease of business doing index. Making policies, testing, and optimizing different policies is possible and welcomes by the city.
Bangalore seems to be fulfilling almost all the needs - a city that has the capacity of changing and making an impact on the host country, ability to be run by different nations, and people of a different mindset.
