If you were selecting a mobile as a gift for a young infant, what features would you look for to make the mobile as interesting as possible for the baby?
Answer.
In selection of toys or stimulating objects for infants, two key points need to be emphasised- safety and support and stimulation of age-related developmental abilities. In order to introduce a cellphone as an interesting play material in the young infant’s envioenment, the following points are crucial:
The material used in the toy should be non-toxic and safe for children as babies like to explore objects in their world by grasping and putting them in their mouth. As babies like to suck on objects, the mobile phone could be made interesting by adding accessories like a small suckler for infants on the back of the phone.
A phone which has curved and smooth edges and a plastic cover on top would be selected to highlight practical aspects of safety assoiated with protection of infants from sharp edges and glass which can break upon falling and cause any injury.
Moroever, features such as bright coloured body for the phone, a cover in the shape of an animated, Happy face of an animal, big colourful buttons on the keypad instead of a flat touch screen phone would be selected to keep the child’s interest as infants are attracted towards bright colours, objects which they can explore and grip through their hands, fingers rather than plain surface objects like a touch screen. In addition, a phone which plays optimally loud musical ringtones or lullabies would further attract infants’ attention more than a phone with no music and the use of the phone to play lullabies could additionally help to make them comfortable and relaxed.
