Biodiversity is defined as variety in living system that is found in a particular area can be termed as biodiversity of that particular area . Biodiversity is classified at three different level that is genetic level , species level and the ecosystem level. A Rich biodiversity leads to high primary productivity of a particular area . A rich biodiversity plays an important role in controlling the weather , maintenance of ecological balance in the environment , help in decreasing the pollution , help in the soil formation and increasing the nutrient content of the soil which further increases the productivity . Resources such as medicines , drugs , breeding stock are obtained from the biodiversity . Biodiversity plays an important role in the development of biotechnology which result in the formation of many gentically modified species .There are various ways to protect the biodiversity of a particular area such as by protecting the natural habitat of the organisms , reduce reuse and recycling of the product , rainwater harvesting , spread awareness about the loss of biodiversity , planting different kind of trees in a particular area increases the species richness .
