List out the genetic applications of T4 bacteriophage, E.coli, Saccharomyces cervesiae.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Genetic applications of T4 bacteriophage:
T4 bacteriophage has the following genetical applications:

  • It helps in the identification of the nature of the genetic material.
  • Its various mutant forms are easily detectable.
  • The recombination of it is also easily detectable.

Genetic applications of Escherichia coli:
E.coli has been the most favorite experimental organism for the geneticists because it is non pathogenic, easy to culture, economical, small-sized, simply organized and has various biochemically and physiologically detectable phenotypic traits. Further, it multiplies very rapidly.

Genetic applications of Saccharomyces cerevisiae:
The yeast is a favorite genetic material because it is easy to culture, economical, small-sized, easily available and has short and simple life cycle. Further, all the meiotic products (ascospores) can be analyzed easily and quickly from the cytogenetical point of view.

Application of genetics:

  • Genetics is the study of inheritance, structure of DNA, genes, chromosomes and various related processes.
  • Application of genetics includes studying the inheritance pattern of characters and linked diseases, gene therapy, genetic engineering, DNA fingerprinting, diagnosis of diseases, crop improvement, characterisation of species, etc.
