Define gender and communication and outline three reasons why it is necessary to study gender and communication in the tertiary institution.
Gender is a society's beliefs about the traits and behaviour of males and females. It is a cultural belief about differences between women and men.
Communication is the exchange of information, thoughts, feelings and messages between two persons or among many persons through particular medium.
There is a good relationship between gender and communication. In the tertiary institutions the students are more matured. So, there is no gender discrimination and men and women communicate spontaneously. But gender prejudice appears in some people in such institutions and therefore there also appears discrimination in the management.
In such institutions the students from various cultures appear and they have to maintain community culture. In their respective community there may by gender discrimination. But in the communication that prejudice does not exist. It is the institution culture to avoid gender discrimination.
