It is holiday season at the Variable family house and you (the researcher) have been invited to dinner to celebrate.
You arrive to dinner and see that five members of the Variable family are there:
Dependent,
Independent,
Control,
Extraneous, and
Moderator.
Being the great researcher that you are, you spend much of your time at dinner observing the interactions among the members of the Variable family. When you get home, your friend calls and asks you about your evening.
Your task is to describe each member of the Variable family to your friend: who they are, how they are related, and how they interact with each other. As the researcher, you too can have an impact on how the members of the Variable family interact... you were at dinner after all. You should also tell your friend how your interactions with some members of the family impacted the others (hint: what happens to Dependent if you manipulate Independent).
Note- the definition of experiments variables and dependent independent and control variables is in the pics but the rest two are in the text
Extraneous variables are the variables which the researcher doesnt intend to study but they happen to effect the results. They effect the interations of the inependent and the dependent variables. They are similar to the control variables but the control variables can be kept constant or controlled by the researcher and these cannot be controlled or kept constant as the researcher is helpless in front of these or he has no control over them.
Moderator variables are the variables which are known by the researcher and are induced such that they purposely interact with the dependent and the indeoendent variables. They affect the strength of correlation between independent and dependent variable. They are denoted by M and they either amplify or weaken the correlation between the independent and dependent variable
