a cube of osmium metal 1.500 cm on one of its sides. It also has
the mass of 76.31g at 25°C please help me solve this problem by
showing your work so I can compare my answers.
a. what is the density g/cm3 at this temp
b. the density of titanium metal 4.51g/cm3 at 25°C. what
mass of titanium 'displaces' 68.8mL of water at 25°C
c. the density of benzene at 15°C is 0.8787 g/mL. determine the
mass of 0.1900L of benzene at this temp.
Thank you so much!
a)
Given
Mass of Osmium metal = 76.31 g
Side of Os metal cube = 1.500 cm
Density of Os at 25 0 C = ?
Density is calculated by using formula , density = Mass / volume
To calculate density we need to calculate volume of Os metal.
We know that, volume of cube = side 3
Volume of Os metal = ( 1.500 cm ) 3 = 3.375 cm 3
Substituting mass = 76.31 g and volume = 3.375 cm 3 in density formula, we get
Density = 76.31 g / 3.375 cm 3 = 22.61 g / cm 3
ANSWER : Density of Os at 25 0 C : 22.61 g / cm 3
b)
Given
Density of Titanium metal =4.51 g / cm 3
Mass of Titanium that displaces 68.8 ml water = ?
When Ti metal is added to water, it will displace volume of water equal to its own volume.
Therefore, volume Ti = volume of water displaced = 68.8 ml.
We have formula, density = mass / volume
Mass of Ti = density volume
Mass of Ti = 4.51 g / cm 3 68.8 cm 3 = 310.3 g
ANSWER : 310 g Titanium will displace 68.8 ml water.
c)
Given
Density of benzene = 0.8787 g /ml
Volume of benzene = 0.1900 L = 190 ml
Mass of 0.1900 L benzene = ?
We have formula, density = mass / volume
Mass of Benzene = density volume
Mass of Benzene = 0.8787 g / ml 190.0 ml = 166.95 g
ANSWER : Mass of 0.1900 L benzene is 167.0 g
