The stakeholder model requires participation, not just involvement. What is the difference between the two practices

Solutions

Expert Solution

As we know, the stakeholder model promotes active participation . This is necessary because it shares an understanding which is common in nature . It makes the decision making process more participative and empowered .

Difference

  • Participation is actual involvement in the decision making process which ensures that the plan is made according to priorities and needs of the stakeholders . Involvement on the other hand means is just a state of being involved having very less voice in decision making .
  • Participation leads to trust building and created an environment of belongingness where as involvement does not help the stakeholders to make their voices heard
  • Helps increase ownership . Stakeholders feel that now they are being heard and the plan or project is being made by considering their viewpoints on the other hand involvement does not include all this
  • Participating generates more support than involvement for the plan or policy as it helps in creating a mutual understanding .
