Scottsboro Boys:-Scottsboro boys were 9 teenagers, whom two white women falsely accused of rape,the incident take place in in a train near Scottsboro,Albama,in 1931.This is the time of Great depression,many unemployed Americans would hitch rides to abroad freight train in the search of work.On 25th March,1931 after a fight in the train,police arrested Nine black teenagers in very minor charge.But after the questioning two white women,Ruby Bates and Victoria price,they accused the boys of raping them in the train.The nine teenagers were shifted to the local country seat, Scottsboro.As per a news spread of the alleged rape an angry white mob surrounded the jail, leading thr local sheriff to call in the Albama National Guard to prevent a lynching.In the first appeal the 8 of them were convicted culprit and sentenced to death by the an all-white,all-male jury. In this trial 13 year old Leory wright, ended in Hung jury when one favoured life imprisonment rather than death.after the first trial international labour defence (ILD) the legal wing of the American communist party, took the case of these boys in his hands,by seeing its potential to galvanize public opinion against racism.
ILD helps these boys by performing rallies, speeches,parades and demonstrations.Letter streamed it from people_communist and non communist,white and black protesting the guilty because of this on of them williams granted a new trial,as he was a minor at that time.
In 1932 supreme court remanded the cases to the lowee courts.
The second trial was began in the lower court.one of the boys accusers ,Rubi bates recanted her initial testimony and agree to testify for the defence.but nothing happens because of his initial testimony and initial medical report,all-white jury convicted the first defendant patterson and recommended the death penalty.
In January 1935,exclusion of black on jackson Country rolls Denied a fair trail of defendants,and suggesting that the lower courts review Patterson's case also.the National association for the advancement of coloured people and other sale right group join the ILD that year to form the scottsboro defence committee which recognised the defensive effort for the next set of retrials.After that 4 for them were released and one one of them was dead from cancer.
In 2013, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles voted unanimously to issue posthumous pardons to Patterson, Weems and Andy Wright, bringing a long-overdue end to one of the most notorious cases of racial injustice in U.S. history.
