The middle East for instance, the view on women in the workforce and how their common form of lifestyle does not permit women managers and other countries are still facing issues women had here in the U.S a decade ago and have in some ways continued on today. The boarders in which business is conducted makes a big difference on the success of the team. Have you encountered any situations personally that reflect this?
I have personally encountered discrimination in workplace as a woman based on gender during promotion in my previous organization. I was considered for the managerial position along with my male colleague and I was confident that I would be selected as I have always performed better than the male colleague. I was well qualified than him based on other factors like education and experience, but when the result came he was selected for the position. I was not considered only because my supervisor was not confident to offer the position as I am a woman. I was very much desperate on the result and could not concentrate on my performance after the incident. I left the organization after few months as I could not accept the discriminative mentality of the employer. I have witnessed other female employees also leaving the organization or working under dissatisfaction due to the glass ceiling that prevent the women employees from reaching the top positions. The employee dissatisfaction would greatly affect the overall performance of the team as each employee contributions are equally significant irrespective of the gender.
