Question

In: Mechanical Engineering

Determine the (a) it's temperature, C (b) total enthalpy, KJ

A container is occupied by a ten kg waterr and four kg vapor at 0.88 Mpa.

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a) in the first question which is the temperature

using steam table, given the pressure which is 0.88 Mpa. look at the the table 2 and find the given pressure and look for the saturation temperature which is equal to 174.43 C.

(b) to find total enthalpy

since the given is mixture of water and vapor therefore it is in the wet region

so first find the quality x

then by using the formula only for wet reion then solve the total enthalpy

Ethanol melts at -114.0 ∘C. The enthalpy of fusion is 5.02 kJ/mol and the enthalpy of vaporization is 38.6 kJ/mol. The specific heats of solid and liquid ethanol are 0.970 J/g⋅K and 2.30 J/g⋅K, respectively. How much heat is needed to convert 39.0 g of solid ethanol at -160.0 ∘C to liquid ethanol at -35.0 ∘C ? I am really confused on this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
