Discuss the adverse effects of free radicals in the body at the cellular level and explain the relationship they have with degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and others.
(( answer this in 5 or 6 sentencs, I don't need long answer)
Free radicals are electron-deficient species that is a species containing one or more unpaired electrons, Oxygen molecules with stable outer shell split into single atoms that have unpaired electrons, they become unstable and make an effort to make up the number of electrons in their outer shell by quickly reacting with other substances This condition is called oxidative stress. An imbalance is created between free radicals and antioxidants, the number of free radicles exceeds antioxidants. Over a period of time that can lead do many diseases by inducing damage to all major components of cells, that includes DNA(cancer), proteins(structural damage), and fatty tissues(Atherosclerosis). We need to balance the free radicals and antioxidants as they are part of your body’s natural and healthy functioning. We can prevent or reduce the damage done by oxidative stress by making small changes in our lifestyle. The different types of free radicles are Superoxide, O2- 2. Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2 3. Hydroxyl radical, OH- 4. Singlet oxygen, 1O2 5. Hydroperoxy radical, HOO- 6. Lipid peroxide radical, ROO- 7. Nitric oxide, NO-
