Do you think it is fair for students to be admitted or denied entrance into a college because of standardized test scores? Think about possible barriers to test-taking. (i.e., test anxiety, disabilities, unfamiliar material etc.)
One of the most important factors that determines the college entry is standardized tests. This would mean that people who could score well would be admitted but not others even if they are interested in the subject and pursuing higher studies. One of the most important things about human beings is that they could learn at any given point in time thus, children who were playful in their school days may perform well in colleges whereas, children who were brilliant in their school days may struggle to excel in colleges. Secondly, the tests only test the theoretical knowledge of the children and not their practical side of it. This would mean that children who are theoretically good, may not perform well practically and vice-versa. This would mean that all the standardized test would be favourable to those who could memorize the facts and processes. Finally, it would also depend on the mental state of the students while taking the tests which would make them anxious, afraid and unfamiliar with certain topics that they didn’t study previously. This doesn’t mean that they are not capable of studying but it only means that they are temporarily not able to do certain tasks and based on this, they shouldn’t be denied admission.
