Yes, the process of union employee is fair for the following
reasons:
- When the rights and concerns of the employees are not paid any
heed, it is natural that people will be unionizing so that they
make their voices heard to those at the helm of affairs.
- Union provides disadvantageous employees a platform so that
their concerns are addressed in a strong collective voice. In this
absence of a union, employees are left with no option but to
succumb to the pressure which does not create a level playing
field.
- Union helps an organization by bringing in the changes and
interventions that can help the organization to maintain morale and
keep the employees motivated.
- An organization sometimes needs union as much as union needs
organization simply because it will allow the organization to speak
to the representatives of the union without the need to engage with
individual and unorganized groups who might be having militant
agenda to stop the growth of the organizations.
- Unions are fair in a way it creates a sense of belongingness
within the employees and union provides them a platform to share
their stories with the people and relate with them.
To improve employee satisfaction, the following are the steps I
would be taking:
- To make a reward and compensation strategy a holistic process
so that each employee is compensated for his/her performance.
- To improve the work conditions of the workplaces and
accommodating the concerns of the employees. This may however not
motivate employees but it prevents dissatisfaction from
employees.
- Help employees in creating informal groups wherein they will be
sharing their candid conversations by fostering closer connections
with other colleagues.
- Invest heavily in the employees training and development and
help them take ownership of their learning path. Provide career
development programs so that employees learn the necessary skills
over time.
- Promote employees from within so that employees are motivated
and take ownership of their careers.
- Give necessary employee benefits from a robust insurance policy
to a proper retirement plan will make employees not worry about the
future or the eventualities that may occur.
