Describe possible security issues that may affect Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
BACKGROUND
DHCP is a base on client-server communication.
the job of servers is to manage a collection of unique IP addresses, and information about client configuration parameters.the job of DHCP is to assign IP address to device dynamically.when a new client is connected to the network , this client sends a request to the server and gets an IP address from server dynamically.
Ans:
there may be two types of security issues
a)Fake DHCP Server or unauthorized DHCP server:
if a cyber attacker installs a fake server then this server can
receive requests from client and responds with fake information and
making clients useless.
b)Fake DHCP client or unauthorized DHCP client.
if a cyber attacker installs an unauthorized client, this
unauthorized client shows that it is authorized client and tries to
get the authentic and correct information from the DHCP server.now
this unauthorized client can misuse this information for further
security attacks.
