Assessment:
Assessment is a method that follows four components in a package.
Those four stages are Plan, Do, Test and Act. This is a method of
measuring success of the pupil. Therefore, it is an orderly
operation. This uses a test to verify the output of the pupil.
Assessment should not be regarded as an add-on at the end of the
learning cycle merely to achieve the administrative goals or as a
success report to the parents for the children. Actually, it is
very much an important part of the learning process from which
children seek input on their development.
Assessment Purposes:
Teaching and Learning:
The primary aim of the assessment is to enhance the learning of
the students and the teaching of the teachers as both relate to the
knowledge it offers. Training evaluation is an evolving process
that results from the teaching-learning relationship. What makes
assessment important for learning is how well the knowledge is
used.
Improvement system:
Assessment can do more than just assess and recognize the learning
needs of the students; it can be used in a process of continuous
improvement to facilitate progress in the education system.
- The knowledge learned from the assessment will be used by
students and teachers to decide their next teaching and learning
moves.
- Parents and families should be kept updated about the next
teaching and learning plans and the progress being made, so that
they can play an active role in learning for their children.
- School leaders may use school-wide planning information to help
their teachers and assess the needs for professional growth.
- Communities and boards of trustees can use information on
evaluations to assist their position in governance and their
staffing and resourcing decisions.
- The Education Review Office will use information from the
assessment to inform its school improvement advice.
- The Ministry of Education should use assessment information to
conduct policy analysis and improvement at a national level, so
that budget funding and policy action are properly tailored to
promote improved student outcomes
