Discuss the breakdown of the Nervous system. Make sure to fully breakdown the autonomic nervous system.
The central nervous system comprises of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system comprises of the nerve fibers branching from the spinal cord and extending to all parts of the body such as the neck and arms, torso, legs, skeletal muscles and internal organs. The part of the nervous system that controls the bodily functions directed unconsciously like; breathing, the heartbeat, and digestive processes are called autonomic nervous system. The sympathetic system is responsible for the "fight or flight," response while parasympathetic is referred to as "rest and digest. The ganglia arranged as two paravertebral chains form the sympathetic chain. The post-ganglionic fibers leave the ganglia and join the spinal nerves or visceral nerves to innervate the target organs. Anatomically the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) exits the central nervous system primarily with cranial nerves III, VII, IX, and X, as well as the sacral spinal roots.
