Autonomic nervous system is the part nervous system which supplies internal organs
It has two parts.
A.sympathetic nervous system: which connects internal organs with brain by spinal cord. It is associated with the fight or flight response.
When stimulation occures,this nerves prepare the organism for stress by increasing heart rate, increasing blood flow tobthe muscles and decreasing blood flow to the skin.
B. Parasympathetic nervous system: consist of cranial nerves and spinal nerves. When there is stimulation,these nerves increases digestive secretions, reduce the heat rate and blood pressure.
a. Both of these systems control same body functions but opposite effect on functions which they regulate. Sympathetic nervous system prepare body for fight or flight response but parasympathetic system prepare to relax body and inhibit or slow many high energy functions.
