The United States has better health care for its citizens than any other country in the world. Do you agree? Why or why not?
Is pursuit of a single-payer system the solution to workforce challenges? What challenges have occurred to health care workers in countries that have adopted a single-payer system? Would similar challenges occur in the U.S.?
United States indeed has one of the best health care systems in the world. The country has the highest health care spending capacity in the world. US takes sufficient measures to address the health and safety of its citizens- need wise as well as age wise. Numerous old healthcare schemes facilitate the care of older citizens.
Though single-payer system has numerous followers and benefits it cannot be considered the best solution to the workforce challenges faced. The reason being there are many disadvantages to this system. The biggest disadvantage is that it does not address the doctor shortage problem, which is the need of the hour. The single pay system may be modified by medical providers to a private-pay system, which will lead to consumer exploitation. The definition and source of cash pool is also not clearly defined for this system.
Yes similar challenges can occur in the US and this is primarily the reason why US is not an advocate of the single-payer system.
