Find the acceleration of a 2500 kg truck that has a force acted on by its wheels of 7kN. A force of friction of 1500 N is also acting on the truck.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer : Given problem , mass of the truck (m) = 2500 kg

             force acting on the wheels (f1) = 7 kN = 7000 N

             This force say acting on forward direction.

             frictional force acting on the truck (f2) =1500 N

            This frictional force oppose the wheels force.So the resultant force F = f1 - f2

           F = 7000 -1500 = 5500 N

          We know that force F = ma

       Where a is acceleration, a = F/m

       a = 5500/2500 = 2.2 m/s^2

       Therefore acceleration of the truck , a = 2.2 m/s^2

Force, speed , acceleration and momentum
Sometimes it is convenient to construct a system of units so that all quantities can be expressed in terms of only one physical quantity. In one such system, dimensions of different quantities are given in terms of a quantity X as follows:[position] = [𝑋𝛼]; [speed] = [𝑋𝛽]; [acceleration] =[𝑋𝑝]; [linear momentum] = [𝑋𝑞]; [force] = [𝑋𝑟].
