The leadership traits, skills and behavior of Nelson Mandela in his book Long Walk to Freedom ,and the impact of his success and failures.
Nelson Mandela’s leadership was a symbol for peace, unity and change for the people of South Africa. His leadership skills and strategies made him a natural leader.
He while in young age, took up the sport of boxing, and developed a consistent regimen of physical fitness. For him listening was more important than talking. He always had remained loyal to his ideals, friends, and people throughout his life. He was humble, always giving credit and acknowledging the contributions of others made people love him. He was charismatic in personality, intelligence, wit, and empathetic. He always carried belief in doing what was right, no matter what the consequences may be. He began his life as a freedom fighter. He fought for the liberation of millions of people, not the glory of his own.
He was always focussed on letting people know when they had achieved gains. He practiced involving other people and delegation of tasks. He organizing defiance campaigns and led the way and showed people how it should be done. He was trust worthy, had right motives, great good will.
As a result of his failures of not being able to see bad motives in some people and even after going jail for many years, he converted it into his success and country’s success. He overcame great personal suffering, and still emerged with his vision as a beacon, for his people, his determination of forgiving the past and building a future with all the people in this country so compelling, that he brought the whole nation to a common goal, along with him in his quest. His spirit of enterprise helped turn whole country’s immense natural resources into the wealth of our nation. He healed the old wounds and built a new South Africa.
