The role of a manager is always changing. Though the traditional functions and roles of a manager are relatively easy to define, in practice it is impossible to predict what you as a manager will be required to do.

1) Arguably, managers are constrained by the environment in which they work. Discuss how decision making may well be influenced by a number of internal or external environmental factors impacting a business.

2) An external factor that has had a great impact on our workforce is the need to consider diversity and inclusion. We must ensure that we maximise the potential of all employees. Explore how we can enhance productivity, and increase innovation while considering employee wellbeing. You must address the challenges of bias and prejudice on achieving the most effective outcomes.

3) Principles of diversity and inclusion are important to improve the effectiveness of a business, but these may be challenged by the need to remain efficient, profitable and sustainable. Discuss what role responsible, ethical management plays in this and whether it is important for the success of the business.

If you had to structure the essay into 3 parts, how would you do it?

Solutions

Expert Solution

You can begin with an introductory paragraph highlighting the generalised role and importance of a manager, viz, thr functions performed and tasks carried out, keeping in mind that they are general and are carried out in all organisations.

Then you can include the decison making challenges taking a particular scenario as an example which will help you answer the questions as well. You can also include the effect of internal and external factors responsible for affecting that scenario and how it affects decision making ability and its effects on employee force.

In the third part you can answer your third question wherein you can put up points relating to profitability and sustainability derived from the decision making above, keeping in mind the same scenario as you took up earlier.

This would help you structure the essay into equally weighted 3 parts and provide answers to all that is asked.
