What is an example of a baryon that isn't a proton or a neutron?
Elementary particles are primarily classified as leptons and hadrons. While hadrons take part in strong interactions (one of the four interactions in nature), leptons do not respond to this interaction. A hadron is a particle with structure and is composed of quarks while leptons are structureless and are considered fundamental particles.
A hadron may be composed of either two or three quarks. Hadrons that are composed of three quarks are called baryons and those with two quarks are known as mesons. While baryons have half-integral spin (1/2, 3/2,...) mesons have integral spin (0,1,2....).
Apart from proton or neutron, sigma particles (), cascade particles (), lambda particle (), delta particles (), omega particle () are other baryons.
