In about 300 words, write on the topic: The Role Of Traditional Rulers And Religious Leaders Towards Peaceful Election2020 In Ghana
Every time Ghanaians go to the polls they come under the unique
conditions of being driven by the current day expectations of their
traditional leaders. The fear of losing their jobs and livelihood
in the run up to election is a common scenario. They look towards
their traditional leader to decide on which candidate they should
support. The traditional rulers play a vital role in promoting
their ideals and give more 'lip service' to the elections without
actually taking part in any kind of politics. Ghanaian political
parties are very largely controlled by the traditional rulers in
the way that they tend to remain unchallenged. It is also a fact
that they are highly respected and also pretty influential in
politics. The mission of religious leaders is to turn Ghana into a
constitutional democracy where all citizens can be included,
irrespective of their economic or social status. Ghana should
therefore emerge a democracy with effective electoral and
legislative institutions that ensure the participation of all
citizens in democratic affairs. It is the responsibility of the
Traditional Leaders to lead the country's democratic
transformation. In addition to building an inclusive democracy in
Ghana, religious leaders must play an important role in carrying
out the continuous and effective political reforms. At all level of
the government, the religious leaders engage the public in
fostering the people's democratic participation. They also have an
ethical responsibility to engage the public to preserve and uphold
the rule of law. They have taken a cautious approach towards
electoral activities which has probably gained much for the whole
country with the formation of the Federal Government.
