Explain how the temperature is controlled on the (a) top (b) middle (c) bottom part of the tower in separation systems.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. How Temp is controlled on top, middle and bottom part of the tower in separation process?

Ans: Let's consider distillation tower. It is a methodology by which the given component can be separated from a mixture by using partial vaporization and partial condensation into small fractions.

Temperature Profile:

The tempreture of any kinds of separation process, the top part is hot and the bottom part is cool. For a simple distillation process the bottom part is lower than boiling point and the temp at the top of the column is just above the boiling point.Reboiler is used to add heat in to a tower by the heat exchanger in separation process. The heat added to the bottom of the tower is easy to control via steam. At the top of the tower the tempreture is just above the boiling tempreture but in bottom of the column the temp control is just different because we usually want top product be liquid.so we condensed these gas which are coming out to the top column. The top tempreture of any kinds of tower in a separation process controlled by changing the reflux ratio. That means the liquid return to the top of the column.A higher reflux ratio means more cooler liquid which lower the top part of the tempreture. In the middle part of the tower in a separation process, temperature balance created between hot gas rise in column and cooler liquid fall down.
