How many electrons occupy dyz atomic orbitals?

How many electrons occupy dyz atomic orbitals?

_______ electron(s)

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are five d - orbital i.e dxy , dyz , dzx , dz2 , dx2-y2  and only two electrons can stay in same orbital according to Pauli's exclusion principle.

This principle states that no two electrons in an atom or molecule can have same four quantum numbers .

So the answer is two electrons.
