Research is divided into two categories- Basic and Applied. The
difference between the two is as follows:-
1. Basic Research enhances the actual knowledge about the topic.
Whereas Applied research conducts experiment to solve an existing
practical problem.
2. Basic research is theoretical in nature and applied is practical
in nature.
3. basic research is used for scientific theories and predictions
whereas applied is used in case of techniques and technology.
4. Basic research is general and universal and applied is specific
and limited.
5. Basic research deals with human behavior and applied on some
real life problems.
However, both the research are compliment to each other which means basic research is pre requisite for using applied research. This states that how can a problem be solved if you don't know what the problem is all about. So in order to have applied research it is better to first has basic research about it. Therefore both the research should be conducted simultaneously so that the problem from root to tip is clear.
