Among post surgical Tesio catheter patients in the acute dialysis unit, does the implementation of traditional handwashing with soap and water, as compared to alcohol based hand sanitizers, help decrease the rate of SSIs?
What tangible and intangible resources will be needed to implement your project?
What improved outcomes do you anticipate will occur that could indicate the project produced a successful return on investment (ROI) of these resources?
How will you communicate your plan for change with key decision makers so that they will support the allocation of the resources you are seeking?
Although the regular use of hygienic soap and water handwashing procedures is the gold standard, the use of alcoholic solutions is effective and safe and deserves more attention, especially in situations in which the handwashing compliance rate is hampered by architectural problems. In dialysis unit, to avoid SSI, alcohol based hand hygiene is more effective which ensure 99.9% safety from pathogens.
Tangiable and intangible resources;
Tangible resources; It includes hand washing facility such as sink and faucet, availability of water, soap solution, dryer or napkins to dry the hand, dustbins.
Alcohol based hand hygiene needs tangible resources such as alcohol based hand hygiene solutions, which may fix at anywhere such as on wall, table, and over the coat .
Intangible resources include assessment form, permission to conduct study.
The expected outcome of the study include high success rate in avoidance of surgical site infections among dialysis patients in the unit. It is expected that the above mentioned project would be successful in using alcohol based hand hygiene. It requires less tangible resources .
We can communicate the effectiveness of hand hygiene with hand rub solution to the decision makers so that they will approve forthe change. We should explain about the effectiveness in prevention of SSI with proper evidence to them.
