Starbucks training program and protocol is quite good compared to other brands because they focus on customer experience. When one starts working at Starbucks, that person is trained according to the manual. The newcomers are always with a learning coach or the store manager as they learn the basic tactics of working. There is a training called as ‘Starbucks Experience’ which includes an overview of the history and culture of the company.

Starbucks use various engaging tools during training which makes one learn how to do their job which is like a trial session. Some other tools that Starbucks use are Drink Dice, Clear glass cappuccino training cups, Green apron book, and many more.

Starbucks teaches its trainees emotional intelligence, how to deal with different types of customers, how to manage rush hour, and many more things. Trainees can contact their manager any time for help on an issue. Starbucks make sure to train and develop its employees regularly.

Starbucks gives each new employee proper training and time to understand everything, which is how I knew what to do. With experience and working regularly, one learns to do the job well. There are many things that worked well and many that could have been better. To provide better insights, following are some pros and cons-

PROS

  • Free bag of tea/coffee each week, free food and drinks during shifts, discount on items
  • Health insurance for only 20 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Great co-workers and managers

CONS

  • Extremely stressful, especially in busy hours
  • Stingy on hours
  • Very rude customers some times
  • Bureaucracy
  • Low pay
