Provide three illustrations of Newton’s First Law in
sporting
events. Describe the sporting event and which object when at
rest stays at rest, or when in motion stays in motion.
Describe these same three illustrations in the manner of an
entertaining sportscaster.
Answer:
Let us go the basics first.
Let us first state Newton’s first law of motion.
Newton's first law of motion states that an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion with the same velocity unless acted upon by what we call an unbalanced force.
Three illustrations of Newton’s First Law in sporting events along with description of the sporting event:
(1)A tennis ball will remain at rest on the court until the unbalanced force of a player’s hand picks it up and moves it.
(2)A cricket ball remains at rest until a bowler throws it towards a batsmen in the game of cricket. The ball continues to move towards the batsman until the batsman hits the ball with bat. After this, the ball bounces back and starts moving towards the bowler (or away from the batsman).
(3)The football lying at rest on the ground continues to be in rest until it is kicked by any player in the ground.
