What does it mean “optimisation of Building Automation Systems (BAS)” , When it should be
done? How we know that the BAS needs to be optimized ? What are the main benefits of BAS optimization?

Please answer it using computer

Expert Solution

Building automation system (BAS) is an intelligent or smart system comprising of software hardware or both that connects lighting, heating, ventillation, air conditioning, security and other systems to a single centralized platform connected wired or wirelessly , that intended to improve energy efficiency , increase safety, reduce cost etc.

The main components of the BAS are

Sensors

They are used to sense temperature, humidity, lighting etc and send these data's to main controller.

Controller

This is the brain of the whole system, receives the signals or data's from the sensors and it sends control or command signals to the lighting, security , heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems etc.

Output devices

They are actually relays or actuators used to act with respect to the  the command signals from controllers. so that can control different systems

Communication protocols

BAS uses specific, and dedicated protocols for communication purposes.

Terminal Interface

This is ofcourse the user interface, where user can monitor different building conditions can manually chage the settings likewise.

Building automation systems can be either implemented at the initial construction of the building or through modification to the existing building.

When different complaint arrises like decrease in energy efficiency, performance degradation of different units  under the surveillance of the automation system, when automatic control of systems doesn't function accurately or precisley it meant to be etc  then the BAS need to  be optimized. Periodic maintenance and calibrations of the BAS  have to be performed achieve optimization .

Benefits of BAS optimization

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Minimize wear and tear of the structure
  • Reduced maintenace cost
  • Improved ventilation, lighting, air quality , secuirty etc
  • Adds value to the structure.
