What is meant by the term criterion as it is used in personal selection? Give some examples of criteria used for jobs with which you are familiar?

The term Criterion (used in personal selection for job) refers to the requirements on which the employer selects his/her employee for the job. In other words it is the method of selection.

Criteria used for job selection depends on the requirements of job . It cam be as follows-:

1. Qualification.
2. Experience
3. Communication Skills.
4. Ability to work in a team.
5. Leadership Qualities. etc

To illustrate the case , lets take an example of a Retail Store Company. The Criteria used here for selection can be as follows -

• Qualification (to check educational background)
• Experience (to know whether fresher or experienced.)
• Checking the Communication skills.(Here it is important because retail store deals directly with customers. So a personell well versed with the regional language would be an asset to the company as it helps the customers to relate more with the seller)
• Marketing and selling Skills. (Retail stores largely require personnel who can convince the customers to buy in the product. So selling and marketing skills are handy)
• Teamwork Abilities . ( ability of teamwork would also be important as a team can be assigned the duty of a whole section in particular in retail stores. A well coordinated teamwork would hence increase the revenue by attracting more customers)
