What does Ehrmann say are the three myths boys face growing up in our culture? What are the three myths for girls? How if at all have these affected you and/or others you know? In 200 words
Ehrmann says that there are three major myths such as, physical strength, sexual conquest, economic success that boys are taught to master in order to project and prove their masculinity. While in the school, they are expected to prove their physical strength by engaging in sports activities and show aggression. This would mean that the reverse is true for the girls as they are expected to be soft physically. Secondly, when boys get to the high school, they are expected to conquer girls through sexual conquest. This would mean that they would be encouraged to run behind girls, use them for their sexual pleasures and dominate them in bed. This would mean that it expects the girls to be timid and submissive to the sexual pleasures of men and they would be taught to tolerate the acts of men. Finally, when they grow up, they would be expected to be economically independent and remain financially strong which would help them attain a social position. This would mean that women are expected to be dependent on men and engage in the household activities which would help them enjoy a happy life. It has influenced almost everyone in the society and people tend to believe these myths to be true and act accordingly. Although the society has come a long way in proving these ideas are only myths, there are many who still believe and act according to it.
