The typical work for both
Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements and their comparison
and contrast can be calssified on the basis of below mentioned
points:
- Impressionist Movement was the
first movement of modern art which was started by group of painters
who have similar painiting style. This painting style uses the
lighting effects and creation of atmospheric condition in the
artworks that capture natural moment of time. This is a painting
style which shows what is seen rather than what is there. It
describes less details of a subject or object instead of complete
scenario by using of short brushstrokes with thick paint layers,
use of blue & violet rather than black for shading, pure color,
blurred and soft edges. Impressionist movement captures the moment
in scenery and landscape based on daily life routine.
- Post-Impressionist Movement was the
movement that came after impressionism. This movement included
various painters who came up with their own unique style of
painting due to which they did not work as a group. Due to
differentiation in their style of work, this movement was not be
collaborative movement. This style of painting was based on the
visual art which uses colour & shape with bright, bold,
sharper, often outlined edge, less realistic and more
textures.
- Both impressionist and
post-impressionist movements came out in the same 19th century in
france. Impressionist work focused on the naturalistic world
without using bright, bold, shape, line and color but the work of
Post-Impressionist based on the use of vivid color, shape, outline,
sharper and focused on the personally expressive with not lighting
effects. Impressionist paintings were using outdoors scenario for
their paintings while postimpressionist paintings were
doing painting in a studio.
- Impressionism included artwork such
as Soleil Levant and Woman with a Parasol by Claude Monet, Parsi
Street; Rainy Day by Gustave Caillebotte. Post-Impressionism
included artwork such as The starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, The
card Players and Lady in Blue by Paul Cezanne.
