Summarize the
characteristics of State and Federal Parole System:
- State Parole System comes under the
State Government which deals with the state prisoners who have
committed crimed under the state territories whereas Federal Parole
System comes under the Federal Government which deals with the
prisoners who have committed crimes under the national territories.
Jurisdiction of Territories would be the same for state being the
state and federal being the country.
- State and Federal Parole System are
the conditional release to the state or federal prisoner who has
already served 2/3rd of his/her sentence in the correctional
facility. The prisoner who released on parole remains in the
custody during the period of parole under the supervision of parole
authority.
- Federal Parole System was created
for the federal prisoners who have done federal crimes or have been
accused for violatiion of federal laws but State Parole System was
created fo the state prisoners for the violation of state
laws.
- Federal Parole System is managed
under the Federal Bureau of Prisons which is a federal law
enforcement agency under Department of Justice but State Parole
System is managed under the State Authorites.
- The parole board take decision to
provide the parole to individual state/federal prisoners on the
basis of 2/3rd serving period of prisoners and past records of good
behavior. The board of parole consists of the superintendent of
prisons in the Department of Justice and the warden and physician
of the particular correctional facility. The superintendent of
federal prisons belongs to the designation to the high ranked
officers such as the Attorney General of Government as compared to
the state prisons.
- The board of parole of State and
Federal Parole System have a right to terminate the parole period
of state/federal prisoners on the basis of violation. Before
completion of parole period, the parole executive sends a letter to
prisoners about informing the completion of parole period.
Thereafter, no formal certificate of discharge issue to
prisoner.
