Gun Powder Plot in 1606 was one of the most famous plan by the Catholics to prevent King James I of England and VI of Scotland to install his daughter Princess Elizabeth as the catholic head of the state. It was a failed assassination which was advanced with the help of the Jesuits and thus it’s also called the Jesuit Plot. It was followed by King James continuous intolerance towards the Catholic Christians. The plan was to blow the House of Lords with explosives and 36 barrels of explosives were hidden. It was discovered after an anonymous letter received by William Barker which resulted in a search and the plot was brought to the light. All those responsible were sentenced to death. Although father Henry Garnet who was the Head of Jesuits knew the plot through a confession, he was not in a position to reveal it because it was against confession rules. Bonfire night is the symbolic evolution of Gun Powder Plot which was part of the many celebrations that followed the defeat of Gun Powder Plot.
