Expert Solution

1. The duration of the absence will depend on the nature of the injury and how severe it is. I will ask the employee who is injured to meet the doctor and ask for this expert advice. I can guess or estimate the period of absence based on that. If the injury is severe then the absence can be up to 2 months and if it is a minor injury then the absence can be just one month. It also depends on the mindset of the employee after the injury because he should recover fully from the trauma in order to work in an efficient way. So I will consider these factors to estimate the period of absence.

2. The five barriers are:

  • The severity of the injury: If the injury is very bad then the person will take more time to recover from it. This will delay the recovery process and act as a barrier.
  • The need to do physical activity: The employee might need to be involved in the physical activity even after the injury and this might make the situation worse for the person.
  • The mental status: If the person is in a shock then he will take more time to recover. This can also delay the healing process.
  • The treatment quality: If the treatment give is not good then the person will just waste time and not recover soon. Getting the treatment from a good doctor is very much important for a faster recovery.
  • The financial situation: The person should be financially strong to get the right treatment. If he is not a situation to spend money on this then there will be a dealy.

The employer should look for a short-term replacement in order to keep the project progressing forward. The deliverables are very important for the employers so they need to make sure that they deliver the project on time without relying on the injured employee. The injured employees can provide the required knowledge to the new resource through an email or a skype session to continue the work.
