New theories of crime were being studied by psychologists. These theories began to develop in the early 1900s. There is no single cause of crime. Crime is a complex phenomena which has many factors behind it. There are many theories to explain the reason of crime but we will discuss primarily biological, sociological and psychological theories.

Biological theory: It says that criminals are born not made. People who commit crime has some specific physical attributes which make them different from others. It also includes poor diet or hormone imbalance, learning disabilities, brain damage, Genetic inheritance and/or abnormality and low Intelligence. For ex; if the son of a thief becomes like him then this theory comes into the picture.

Sociological theory: It says that crime is a learned behavior and it is shaped by the external incidents and experiences of the criminal. A person's family, peer group and neighborhood plays an important in personality shaping of his/her. For ex; If a teenager commits small burglary because he is part of a big gang group. It would be an example of sociological approach.

Psychological theory: It says that criminal behavior is the result of individual difference in thinking pattern. It is based on the assumption that a person's behavior is guided by his/her thoughts and emotions. So a person actions are the result of hi/her thinking pattern and emotions. It involves other factor such as personality traits/development, aggression and mental illness.

To sum up, there many other theories also which explains the reasons of criminality.
