how do we deal with medication compliance?
MEDICATION COMPLIANCE
Defined by the world health organization as ‘the extent to which a person's behaviour taking medication...corresponds with agreed recommendations from a health care provider. The term compliance has come into disfavour because it suggests that a person is Passively following a doctor's orders, rather than actively collaborating in the treatment Process. Adherence, on the other hand, requires the person's agreement to the recommendations for therapy.
There are five aspects of adherence
The nursing diagnosis, noncompliance is defined as behaviour of person and/or caregiver that fails to coincide with a health-promoting or therapeutic plan agreed on by the person (and/or family and/or community) and health care professional. In the presence of an agreed-on health-promoting or therapeutic plan, a person’s or caregiver’s behaviour is fully or partially nonadherent and may lead to clinically ineffective outcomes.
