Yes , Gerhard Lenski right in classifying societies based on technological advance . Because techonology play massive role in socio-cultural evolution .according to him, the more information of technology acquired by society , more rapidly change this society . It's devided societies in five catagory which will helps understand the importance of classification society on the basis of technology advancement.

pre-industrial society

There was no invention of technology.people use simple tools for haunting and gather vegetation .At this stage socio-cultural evolution and food production was inefficient.in horticulture and pastoral, society used techonology of hand tools to raise crops.Expand productively through technology creates social inequality because everyone could not access technology.

Industrial society :

At this stage, society begin to change rapidly .The rapid expansion of industry and production made man more materialistic and eroded traditional values , beliefs, culture .Though health and economy become more develoment , family loss it's important.

Post industrial society

Society based on technology that supports information based economy .society occupational structure are dramatically change and political participation also escalate.

Post modern society :

It's technological sophisticated society.computer and artificial intelligence is new invention .Though it's solve major social issues , but it creates new problem for mass consumption and changing social relationship.
